Die Schüler lernen Englisch und Frau Aynsley lernt Deutsch

   Day 2-Dienstag

This morning I visited “Die Frösche” with Frau Rot.

The pupils were aged 6 years old and it was their first ever English lesson, so as you can imagine, they were very excited, particularly as they had an English guest. Pupils were introduced to a few greetings and a character called “Ginger”, who helped them to learn their first words.

Each pupils received a text book with a cd in. Pupils were allowed to spend a few minutes looking in their new text book to see if they could recognise any words. First of all pupils were introduced to words that were very similar to English. In English we call these words cognates. Pupils also practised numbers and sang a song with actions with their new friend “Ginger”. I noticed that pupils put their hands up and their finger on their mouth to be quiet just like pupils do at Fairlands.

Next I went to a Maths class with Frau Jung’s class. They were learning about angles. Frau Jung demonstrated what a right angle was and pupils had to come to the board and draw some examples.

Frau Jung’s class timetable with her class to-day was:

Kreis-Circle time

Mathe

Pause

Deutsch

Physik

Pause

Kunst

After the break I visited Klasse 2b-Die“Zebras”. Pupils in this class are 7 years old. They were studying the topic of “Hobbies” in English. The teacher used similar techniques to teach English as we do to teach languages at Fairlands. The teacher held up flashcards and used songs and actions to practise the vocabulary.

Pupils also had to colour in a star next to the picture of the hobby in their text book, that she was calling out. Ginger appeared again and instead of “Simon says”, the pupils played “Ginger says” and they had to point to the correct picture. They finished with some number practice and pupils had to guess the number that was written down behind the board.

Next I returned to Frau Jung’s class to a Physics lesson. Pupils were learning about how to light up a bulb :

Reihenschaltung/Parallelschaltung

Mr Virgin, you would have liked this lesson!

The last lesson was with Klasse 3b-Die “Schäfchen”. Can you work out which animal they are? In this class the pupils are aged 9 years old. This was an English class where pupils were talking about their favourite pizza toppings and practising role-play situations with a partner.

The last visit I made to-day was to the after school music club where there were a few pupils who were playing the guitar, keyboard and the violin.
